What do I do when someone dies?
Stages to take following the death of a loved one
We are here to guide you every step of the way to give a dignified and professional send off for your loved one.
If the death occurred at home
A Doctor will need to come and verify the person has died. This could be your loved ones usual GP or a locum on call Doctor. Once the death has been verified the GP will consult with the Medical Examiner to agree on the cause of death and then they will send the Medical Certificate of the Cause of Death (MCDD) to the Registrar's Office in the district where the person has died. This can take a few days however if you have any queries, please do just ask.
If the death occurred in a hospital setting
The bereavement team at the hospital will contact you and update you on the process.
